During the English domination of Thalassery, the two-way country was run by six-way Nambians, Kummal, East, Camparath, Chandroth, Lemonoli and Karyat. The birth of Kunnothuparamba must have come from the hill of Kummal Kovilaka. The word paramba meant plantation at that time. The renaissance movement was strengthened by the work of the Atma Vidyasangha led by Vagbhatananda Guru at that time, when there were iniquities and superstitions such as untouchability and tindikoodayama. In 1921, a study class and a public meeting chaired by Vagbhatananda at the home of the baby child gurus in Nelliyyaparamba were a turning point. Spiritual awareness was the theme. The congregation accepted gurudev's strong teachings. The work of Vagbhatananda, who had achieved an immense appreciation in the theory of controversy and advaita, made major changes in the Theiyya community.
