V Sivankutty

Vasudevan Pillai Sivankutty (born 10 August 1954) is the current (2021-) Education and Labour Minister of Kerala. He is a Member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Nemom. Sivankutty is a State Committee Member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Kerala, the State Secretary of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Kerala and the District President of CITU, Thiruvananthapuram. He has a degree in Law, and he lives with his wife and son in Thiruvananthapuram.

Sivankutty was born as the son of Communist activist M. Vasudevan Pillai and P. Krishnamma, at Cheruvakkal, Thiruvananthapuram on 10th November 1954. educated at Sree Narayana College, Chempazhanthy and the Kerala Law Academy, Thiruvananthapuram. He was married to women's rights activist and Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) Member R. Parvathi Devi. They have one son, Govind Sivan, a graphic designer based in New Delhi. He is the son-in-law of late Communist ideologue P. Govinda Pillai and late Kerala University Professor, MJ Rajamma. He is also a relative of the late poet Padma Shri Sugathakumari and of former Chief Minister P. K. Vasudevan Nair.
